Beth El, Beth Israel and West Avon Cemeteries - Interactive Cemetery Information
Welcome to Jake Pooler and Peter Malkin's Eagle Scout Projects.
Cemeteries serve not only as places of eternal rest, but also hold countless information about each individual buried there. Every stone contains the name, date of birth and death, and often times many more facts unique to the people buried there. This information is extremely useful to historians researching everything from historical figures to community heroes, as well as family members commemorating a loved one.
Jake catalogued every individual presently interned at West Avon Cemetery and created an interactive map and research capability. Jake looked at Peter's work and realized the importance of the capturing other local cemeteries and the information hold and began work on his Eagle Scout Project in the 2019 through the fall of 2020 cataloging the West Avon Cemetery in Avon, Connecticut.
Peter catalogued every individual interned as of 2016 at Beth El and Beth Israel Cemeteries and created an interactive map and research capability. After meeting with the Avon Historical Society, Peter realized the importance of the information cemeteries hold and began work on his Eagle Scout Project in the fall of 2015 through the spring of 2016 cataloging the Beth El and Beth Israel cemeteries in Avon, Connecticut. With the help of many other fellow scouts, we carefully photographed and recorded everything on each of the more than 1,200 stones at the two cemeteries.
This vital information is now available for everyone to see along with an interactive map of each cemetery to help pinpoint the exact location of individual stones.
